Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 18, 2026  ·  Last updated: July 18, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how the Highlands Community Charter School Student Bus Route Planner (the "app") handles information. It is written to describe exactly what this application does — nothing more, nothing less.

Information You Enter

You may enter the following information into the app:

An address is required because the app cannot calculate a bus or walking route without knowing your starting point. Your address is sent directly to Google's Directions and Places services (see "Google Maps" below) to calculate a route — it is not sent to, or stored on, any Highlands Community Charter School or Alcazar Digital Systems server.

If you choose to save your address using the "Save" button, it is stored only in your browser's local storage (localStorage) on your own device, so the app can pre-fill it on a future visit. It is never transmitted anywhere except when you actively calculate a route. You can remove a saved address at any time by tapping the "✕" button next to the saved-address banner, or by clearing your browser's site data for this app.

Notifications and saved-route notification preferences are not a feature of this app — see "Notifications" below.

Exact address text is not included in any transit service alert. Service alerts are agency-wide (route- and stop-level) and never reference an individual user's address. Address data is not logged by this application.

Google Maps

This app uses Google Maps Platform services, including:

When you type an address or calculate a route, that information is processed directly by Google, subject to Google's own Privacy Policy. Google may process technical information (such as your general location or device/browser information) as part of providing these services. Highlands Community Charter School does not control, and is not responsible for, Google's data practices.

Notifications

This app does not request browser notification permission, and does not send push notifications of any kind. There is no notification history, no read/unread state, and no saved-route notification preferences to manage, because this version of the app does not include that functionality.

The app does display SacRT service alerts (bus and light-rail delays, detours, and closures) as an on-page banner and "view all" list, sourced live from SacRT's own public feeds each time the page loads. This is informational content shown to every visitor and is not personalized, not delivered as a push/device notification, and does not require any permission from you. If you dismiss an alert, that dismissal is remembered only for your current browser tab session (see "Browser Storage" below) and is forgotten once you close the tab.

Browser Storage

This app uses the following browser storage, and nothing else:

This app does not use cookies, IndexedDB, or service-worker caches.

Technical Information

Like any website, this app is served through standard web hosting infrastructure that may automatically process technical information such as browser type, device type, and IP address as part of normal web traffic handling and security logging. The service-alerts feature (see below) runs through a serverless function that may log basic request metadata (such as request timing and rate-limiting counters) for reliability and abuse-prevention purposes; this data is not linked to any individual user or address.

Third-Party Services

This app relies on the following third-party services:

No other vendors, analytics services, advertising networks, or push-notification providers are used by this app.

Student Privacy

This app is designed as a transportation-planning tool only. Please do not enter student records, medical information, or other sensitive educational information into any field of this app. This app is not intended to replace official school transportation, attendance, or emergency communication systems — always follow official communications from Highlands Community Charter School for those purposes.

This app does not claim compliance with FERPA or any other student-records regulation. It was not designed to collect or store student educational records, but its architecture and data handling have not been through a formal regulatory compliance review.

Data Retention

A saved address remains in your browser's local storage indefinitely, until you remove it yourself or clear your browser's site data — this app does not automatically expire it. Dismissed-alert data in sessionStorage is cleared automatically when you close the browser tab. No address or route data is retained on any server operated by Highlands Community Charter School or Alcazar Digital Systems.

Data Security

Traffic to this app is served over HTTPS. The app's serverless functions apply rate limiting and standard security headers to reduce abuse. As with any web application, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and this app cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Choices

You can clear a saved address at any time from within the app. You can clear all locally stored data (including saved addresses and dismissed-alert history) at any time through your browser's site settings. You are never required to save an address or enter any personal information to use the route-planning features of this app.

Children and Student Users

This app is intended to be used by students, families, and staff of Highlands Community Charter School to plan bus routes. It does not knowingly collect information beyond what is described in this policy, and does not require an account, login, or any information beyond an address and a school selection to function.

Policy Updates

This Privacy Policy may be updated if the app's functionality changes. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
